Over the last few years we have seen a massive growth in the amount of virtual instruments available, and it seems that many of those who proclaimed hardware synths to be superior have discovered not only that virtual instruments offer incredible sound quality but often better editing capabilities too - at a fraction of the cost of hardware. And when used in conjunction with a midi controller, virtual instruments are starting to trump the hardware they replace.

With computers offering ever greater capabilities for lower and lower prices, more people are taking advantage of the benefits of using virtual instruments, soft synths and software recording programs such as Logic, Cubase, Ableton Live, Cakewalk, Pro Tools and Sonar.
